DETAILS

This is a project for designing and constructing a Japanese Restaurant & BAR, which was planned to be situated within the Lab Mall in Costa Mesa, California. A space that had been previously used as a movie theatre was converted into a restaurant space.

CHALLENGES

1. Change in Building Infrastructures
Because the building was originally used as a movie theater, the infrastructure environment was not sufficient for this restaurant to function in the best way.
Despite that, we made negotiations and arrangements with local utility companies and improved the infrastructure with installation of a gas supply and draining systems, which ended up with successful provision of appropriate functions for a restaurant.

2. Design with Multiple Elements
Bearing in mind that several elements (such as Sushi bars, dining, and drinking bars) concurrently exist in this shop, in order to ensure that all these elements could show their own identity and create a well-organized shop space, we selected the design option that emphasizes the individuality and balance of those elements.
